JUNIOR SAILING CAMPS
AGES 7 - 10 YEARS
We have added Topper europtis to our inventory, and developed a sailing course to encourage 7 - 10 year old kids to the thrill of sailing small boats.
OBJECTIVE: The course is aimed at developing confidence, and is an excellent pre-sailing course. No previous experience is necessary, and all equipment is supplied. An ISA 'Taste of Sailing' certificate is awarded to all the participants in our awards ceremony on Friday afternoon.
COURSE DURATION: 4 days, Mon-Thurs in July/August, other dates on request.
TASTE OF SAILING
It does exactly as it says on the tin! With this course you will be given taste of the thrilling sport of sailing, and learn the basics over a two day period. Ideal taster before you commit to one of our week long courses, but guaranteed to give you the sailing bug!
OBJECTIVE: The aim of this brief introductory course is to give you a positive introduction to the thrill of sailing.
PREVIOUS KNOWLEDGE/EXPERIENCE: No previous knowledge or experience is required.
COURSE DURATION: 2 days, Saturday/Sunday and Monday/Tuesday of each week of July/August. Times: 9.30am - 3pm. Other times of the year are available, please call the office for further details.
START SAILING (Level 1)
Never sailed before or have done one or two sessions and would like to learn more? Then this is the course for you. Start Sailing courses run over five days and give you a tremendous opportunity to learn new skills, putting them into action in our new fleet of Topaz Uno Dinghies.
COURSE DURATION : 5 Days, 9.30am - 3pm, Monday - Thurs of July/August, other dates upon request.
OBJECTIVE: By the end of this course you will be sailing in light wind conditions with assistance from your instructor.
PREVIOUS KNOWLEDGE/EXPERIENCE: No previous knowledge required.
BASIC SKILLS (Level Two)
Having picked up the basic skills on a level one course, you are now ready to expand your horizons. During this course we concentrate on boat handling and seamanship skills. By the end of the course you should be confident to helm your own dinghy in moderate wind strengths.
COURSE DURATION : Five Days, 9.30am - 3pm
OBJECTIVE: By the end of this course you will be sailing on your own in light wind conditions without the assistance of your instructor.
PREVIOUS KNOWLEDGE/EXPERIENCE: You should be able to demonstrate the skill and knowledge included in your Start Sailing Course.
IMPROVING SKILLS (Level Three)
If you have got to grips with basic skills in light - moderate winds and now want to move on and develop your boat handling, seamanship and confidence, this course is ideal. Plenty of time spent on practical hands on sailing. We will also introduce you to the ultimate rush in the Topaz Omega, and have you hanging from a trapeze by the end of the week. We will also cover all relevant theory such as basic navigation, tides, safety and weather.
COURSE DURATION : Five Days, 9.30 am - 3pm
OBJECTIVE: To develop the skills and knowledge you need in order to set up and sail a small boat more effectively in moderate conditions.
PREVIOUS KNOWLEDGE/EXPERIENCE: You will be expected to have completed, or have experience equivalent to, the Basic Skills course and have been sailing regularly between courses.
ADVANCED BOAT HANDLING (Level Four)
This is a fully comprehensive advanced course, designed to train you in the fields of rigging, tuning your boat to maximise performance, getting the best out of your boat in planing conditions, maximising boat speed in waves, and generally improve your overall speed and sailing know-how.
COURSE DURATION: Five Days, 9.30 am - 5.30pm
OBJECTIVE: To develop advanced boat handling and tuning skills and prepare you to sail flat out in strong winds.
PREVIOUS KNOWLEDGE/EXPERIENCE: You must have completed the Improving Skills course (Level 3) and have been sailing on a regular basis. If you have not been sailing regularly, you will need to do so prior to the course.
KITES & WIRES 1
A fantastic introduction to the skills needed to sail with spinnakers and trapezes. In the duration of the week we will bring you through the fundamentals of rigging and sailing with asymmetric and conventional spinnakers, and crewing with trapeze wires.
COURSE DURATION: Five days, 9.30 am - 3pm
OBJECTIVE: To introduce you to the thrills and spills of sailing with spinnakers and trapezes.
PREVIOUS KNOWLEDGE/EXPERIENCE: You will be expected to have completed or have experience equivalent to the Improving Skills course (Level 3).
KITES & WIRES 2
With this course we take you further on the road to competent spinnaker and trapeze work.
COURSE DURATION: Five days, 9.30 am - 3pm
OBJECTIVE: To introduce you to the thrills and spills of sailing with spinnakers and trapezes, in stronger winds.
PREVIOUS KNOWLEDGE/EXPERIENCE: You will be expected to have completed or have experience equivalent to the Improving Skills ( Level3) course. AND one other course at that level eg kites & wires 1.
